Snapshots of War in Lebanon 1

SNAPSHOT 7

SNAPSHOT 6

The following is a short poetic prose based on a true story that dates back to the year 1986 (during the Lebanese war).Mom told me this story since she personally knew those people.

Where is my toy?

Dania and her three younger brothers
were playing somewhere
As they heard bombing everywhere
They hurried to their place
A haunted house.. ghosts embrace

Walls barely standing
Devastated. .wiped out
Like some mistake deleting
with an eraser washed out

Squintingly, she looked for her toy
There it is..her gorgeous doll "Joy"
Once a birthday gift from dad
Limbless. .barely clad

Her beautiful purple dress.. torn and stained
Lonely and hungry ..nothing sustained

Still Dania didn't give up a sec
She kept looking for other toys
among the wreck
Till she found "mom" under fallen brick!!

I want to Play!!

Kids gathered
in a parking lot
Kicked the ball
Laughter escalted
A bomb parked there

Snapshot 4

Sleepless Beirut

the city where
life sneers death
and beauty mocks rampage
wasn't awakened by
the rustling music
of nightclubs and
lovers whispering
into its ear stories
of unrequited rejected
or fulfilled love!
On an april night
of the year 1975,
slumber abandoned
Beirut, the bride of the sea
left her restless
wrestling maggots
as anonymous,
reckless shooting
rambled through its allies

Loss

He was young and daring
Embracing life ..flaring
He promised Mom and Dad
To be a good lad
Yet lured, he lost direction
by death's horrid seduction
no one can ..brother
Fill the peg you left ever !

I Won !

Mom and I were
racing death to a nearby,
underground lair
I made it first ..death was next
Life's bloody fair

" Snapshot 1"

Who said am scared?

Shooting under
the balcony
Snipers on the roof
Hails of bullets
Rambling
across the street
Young fellows
casting pebbles
Trying to trick bullets
And am peering
through the window
A wounded man lying on the pavement
Begging for a gulp of water
Sure am not scared
Define "scared" !!!

  1. this are incredible!! I remember my father speaking of these types of things, distanced from this I only had his words for impact, it was horrible then but somehow reaching me now through these words. Terrible sadness and anger...your expressions and feelings vivid, clear and stab to the heart. Your calling is noted and realized - truly an amazing person. I have been called "fragile" as I fall apart with any suffering around me...I admire your strength, something I don't possess...
